Tracy Ullman, lead me home 'cause they DON'T know!

Last night while sitting with Greg waiting for writing group to convene, I heard a few notes in the background music and all of a sudden the following lyrics flew into my head and their force was so strong I had to immediately write them down on the back of a receipt I had in my purse.

"They say I'm crazy but I just don't care and if they keep on talking they don't get nowhere."

So I googled them tonight, and I had them almost correct! Pretty good considering I think the last time I heard this song was on Kids Incorporated when I was about 11. This song is every relationship I had in my teens and early-mid twenties. All of them. Plus, it's a kick ass song. It's the song I imagine I would record myself if I had an ounce of musical talent beyond my drunken renditions of Stay by Lisa Loeb at karaoke. It has everything--pop sound, a chick singer, great rhyme, solid piano background, and a tamborine.

So I have been listening to it on my ipod on repeat and loudly, singing away because of course my brain has held onto the words to this song for the last 18 years, including correctly timing the "baaaeeby" at the end of the instrumental. I cannot get enough of this song.

By they way, are you stunned that Tracy Ullman sings this song? Because I was. Truly stunned. But it only makes me love her more.

Tracy Ullman : They Don't Know

You've been around for such a long time now
Oh, maybe I could leave you but I don't know how
And why should I be lonely every night
When I could be with you, oh yes you make it right
And I don't listen to the guys who say
That you're bad for me and I should turn you away

Cause they don't know 'bout us
They've never heard of love

I get a feeling when I look at you
Wherever you go now I wanna be there too
They say we're crazy but I just don't care
And if they keep on talkin', still they get nowhere
So I don't mind if they don't understand
When I look at you and you hold my hand

Cause they don't know 'bout us
They've never heard of love

(do do-do-do)
Why should it matter to us if they don't approve
(do do-do-do)
We should just take our chances while we've got nothin' to lose
Baby
There's no need for living in the past
Now I've found a love, I'm gonna make it last
I tell the others don't bother me
Cause when they look at you they don't see what I see
No I don't listen to their wasted lines
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs

Cause they don't know 'bout us
They've never heard of love

No I don't listen to their wasted lines
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs

Cause they don't know 'bout us
They've never heard of love
